About
Us
War shatters lives. It creates poverty and wastes billions every
year. The people living in the midst of the violence often have the greatest insight into its causes. Yet
they are often excluded from efforts to find a resolution.
International Peace Center Africa support people at the heart of conflicts who are
striving to find solutions. We work with them to deepen our collective understanding of the conflict, bring
together divided communities and create opportunities for them to resolve their differences peacefully.
We are there for as long as we’re needed to provide advice,
support and practical resources.
We then take what we learn to government decision-makers, and
others working to end conflict, to improve peacebuilding policies and practice
worldwide.
Our
Values
COMMITEMENT TO LOCAL LEADRSHIP
We listen to what local peacebuilders say is
needed to deal effectively with conflict, and aim to fund them to deliver programs that they have
prioritised.
NON PARTISAN
We fund people and organisations that bring different groups
together, not those that work only on one side of the conflict.
COMMITED TO
ACTION
We understand the urgency in conflict situations and focus funds on work that will
have a tangible effect on the ground.
VALUEING THE
PERSONAL
We create and value personal relationships with those we fund, between those we fund
and our supporters, as well as between those who work for Peace Direct, whether as staff, Trustees or pro
bono.
COMMITED TO
CHANGE
We want to work with others to build an environment in which, when considering
conflict, people first ask: ‘What can local people do? And how can we support them?’
INTERGRITY AND
TRANSPARENCY
We do not undertake work simply because funding is available. Our work is coherent
and based on what we believe is needed. We are honest and open with each other, our donors, and those we
fund.
STEWARDSHIP.
We expect our partners to be careful with the funds we raise for them, and we act in
the same way.
